Beaumont and Good Beer Honoured
March 21, 2003 --
I am delighted to announce that the cover story on lambic beers which I wrote last summer for the New York-based food magazine, Saveur, has been nominated for a prestigious 2003 James Beard Foundation Journalism Award in the category of "Magazine Writing on Spirits, Wine, or Beer." Based on an overview of the nominees from previous years, it appears that this is the first time ever that a story on beer has been nominated in this category.
As much as I am honoured by this recognition, I think that it is also a great coup for aficionados of good beer around the globe. Additionally, it is a fitting tribute to Saveur, who showed both foresight and guts in placing a feature story about a fringe beer style on the cover of a food magazine.
The winners will be announced in New York City on May 2, 2003. Please see www.jamesbeard.org for further details.
