Bad Board Member! Sit! Stay! Dont Drink!
October 20, 2006 --
Yet another bit of anti-alcohol overreaction comes to us today courtesy of the Brownsville Herald of Brownsville, Texas. This time, at issue is a member of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corp. who actually had the audacity to attend a board meeting while drinking – gasp! – a beer!
According to the Herald, “That wasn’t soda Bill Hudson was sipping at the Sept. 28 meeting,” it was beer. Being debated was a proposal to offer incentive money to an ailing aircraft manufacturer, something which according to the paper, Hudson “vociferously supported.” Although it is not stated per se, the article certainly implies that Hudson’s vociferousness was directly related to the beer he was consuming.

If Bill Hudson was drunk at the board meeting, then his consumption of alcohol would be an issue. But he denies that his judgment was affected by what he was drinking, and even in its transparent attempt to pillory the man and demonize his beer, the Herald cannot mount a convincing argument to the contrary. So where’s the story here?
Sometimes, Brownsville Herald, a beer is just a beer. In fact, most times that’s what it is.
