Cains Takes the House
November 15, 2001 --
The Robert Cain Brewery, an independent brewery from Liverpool, announced a prestigious new outlet for their beers this week. The Merseyside ales will now be poured at the Westminster Sports and Social Club, located directly beneath the House of Commons Chamber in London.
According to the brewery's press release, Cains management had asked the club's manager to feature its bitter as a guest ale. But due to the beer's popularity on its first day, it is to become a permanent fixture at the favoured pub for MPs. The release further states that 82 pints were sold in the first three hours Cains ale appeared on tap.
The CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2001 describes Cains Traditional Bitter as 'a darkish, full-bodied and fruity bitter, with a good hoppy nose and dry aftertaste." No mention is made as to the beer's potential effect on the efficacy of legislators.
