Bright Beer

Second Time Around for the Scots at the GBBF

August 6, 2003 -- The Champion Beer of Britain has been announced at the Great British Beer Festival in London, and for the second year in a row, the winner is a Scottish brew. Bitter & Twisted, an ale brewed by Harviestoun of Dollar in Clackmannanshire, was judged the best beer in Britain by a panel of brewers, beer writers and journalists.

(World of Beer readers may recall that another of the Harviestoun ales, Ptarmigan, was lauded here in the spring of last year. Please see http://www.worldofbeer.com/features/feature-200204.html for more on that.)

This Scottish success follows on last year's victory by Deuchars IPA by the Caledonia Brewery of Edinburgh.

In the CAMRA press release touting the news, Ken Brooker, the owner of Harviestoun, is quoted as saying: "I’m overjoyed. It really proves that Scottish brewers are leading the way on tasty and distinctive beers. I am pleased that all the hard work from the team at Harviestoun has paid off. It’s a great way to launch our new brewery building."
