Two-Time Winner in U.K.
August 2, 2006 --
Essex brewer Crouch Vale pulled off a rare coup at this year's Great British Beer Festival, winning the coveted title of Champion Beer of Britain for the second year in a row. The winning beer was Brewers Gold, which qualified for the "best in show" judging by knocking off all comers in the Golden Ale category. Judging for the CBB is done by panels of brewers, beer writers and other journalists.
In a CAMRA press release, Colin Bocking, Managing Director of Crouch Vale, was quoted as saying, "I am speechless. It was enough of a surprise to have won Champion Beer of Britain in 2005, but to have been voted Britain's best beer for a second year in a row is truly unbelievable."
The silver award went to the Harveys brewery of Sussex for their Sussex Best Bitter, while third place was swallowed up by Moondance, a best bitter from the Triple FFF brewery of Hampshire.
The Great British Beer Festival continues all week through Saturday, August 5.
