Gives a Whole New Meaning to "Chips & Beer"
July 5, 2002 --
McCoy's, a potato chip company based in the U.K., is set to launch a new lager-flavoured chip timed to coincide with the commencement of the new British football season, reports the Financial Times.
The chips, called 'crisps' in the United Kingdom, are made with real hops and brewer's yeast, the company says. They will join the wide range of curiously-flavoured chips now on sale in Britain, including include sausage and tomato, Worcester sauce and pickled onion.
The Financial Times staff who gave the chips an advance tasting were unanimous in giving them a thumbs down. "Revolting," "really horrible" and "like lager that's been in the sun for three hours" were a few of the comments reported. A McCoy's spokesperson responded by suggesting that "they do grow on you."
