Quitting Smoking? Have a Beer!

July 4, 2005 -- Hot on the heels of caffeinated brews like Anheuser-Busch’s B-to-the-E and Molson-Coors’ Kick comes NicoShot, a new brand from Nautilus GmbH Laboratoriumsbedarf in Germany. Branded as “the world’s first smoking-cessation beer,” NicoShot contains 3 milligrams of nicotine per 250 ml can.

According to the company’s press release, issued on June 6, the nicotine content of NicoShot is derived from an “herbal extract of natural tobacco leaf” and is equal in content to that of about one-third of a pack of cigarettes. No mention is made of pricing or the brew’s availability.

One person quoted in the release is Richard H. Davis, President of Beverage Marketing USA, Inc., which suggests that NicoShot may be on its way to the United States in the coming months.
