Big Brother in Swedish Bathrooms
September 19, 2002 --
Thanks to the Globe and Mail newspaper and Swedish Press magazine for this little bit of 'Caring Society' insanity. One wonders how much the neo-Prohibitionists would love to replicate this in the United States.
"If you happen to be using a restaurant washroom in Stockholm, don't be shocked if you suddenly hear someone talking to you," says Swedish Press magazine. "[T]he voice is coming from a speaker. It is Big Brother talking to you about the hazards of alcohol consumption. There is no way you can shut up the irritating voice that starts off by [saying] 'Hello, could we have a serious talk for awhile?' This interference comes courtesy of the State Alcohol Commission . . ."
