Holiday Gifts #3 - For the Beer-Loving Organist
December 4, 2001 --
For the keyboard-inclined, it can be a dream come true to sit at an organ and fill the air with the dramatic tones only such a sophisticated instrument can produce. So imagine, if you will, how delighted your favourite musician will be when they find that this season, you have arranged for them a unique, genuine beer bottle organ from Peterson Electro-Musical Products, Inc.
Okay, so it might seem like a joke, but it's not. The Peterson Beer Bottle Organ (BBO) really exists. The product of an organ-building company from the South Side of Chicago, the Peterson BBO makes music by blowing air over beer bottles filled to various levels with mineral oil. It can be played by keyboard, or if you prefer, by hooking it up to a midi player. Demonstration tunes can be heard at http://www.petersontuners.com/bbo/bbo.html.
I must admit that I was quite surprised at how well the BBO played. Peterson salesman John Norris advises me that while the company has only experimented with promotional versions of the organ thus far, they do plan on marketing variations of this instrument in the future. So even if you can't have your custom instrument ready by Christmas, at least you can wrap up the promise of one of the most unusual instruments found anywhere.
For more information, contact John Norris at jnorris@petersonemp.com or phone 708-388-3311, ext. 141. In Illinois, visit Peterson at 11601 South Mayfield Avenue, Alsip.
