Budweiser...plain & simple.Like 65% of americans.
-- Jenny Dolan
Uh, thanks for the email, I guess. I don't know about that 65% of Americans preferring Bud line, though, that's a good 20 or more points than Bud owns in market share in the United States, and that doesn't account for numbers of people, just volumes of beer.
Hi Stephen: Have you ever heard of an advertising character called Vita-Boy? Have a feeling it might be connected with Schlitz, only because I know that in the 1930's they claimed to have 100 units of Vitamin D in each bottle. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any knowledge of this 10" figure, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
-- Pennie
Sorry, Pennie, but beer advertising history is not my strong suit. I'd suggest you try www.breweriana.com, where they are much more knowledgeable about such things.
Stephen, We've been following your advice for years. We're travelling from Denver to Anchorage in May. Where are the best brewpubs and taphouses in Calgary (& the rest of our route).
-- Jamie & Wendy
That's a heck of a distance to cover, both by car and by beer! Calgary is easy -- check out Bottlescrew Bill's, Limerick's Pub and the Ship and Anchor for taps and bottles and the Wildwood Brewing Company for the city's only decent brewpub; also be on the lookout for any draught beer from the Wild Rose Brewing Company and draught or bottles from Edmonton's Alley Kat Brewing. The rest of your route, however, will be more hit and miss, as Alberta and northern B.C. are less than exciting beer destinations.
Good luck and happy beer hunting.
You seem to indicate in your article on stout that it has a high alcohol content. I was under the impression that the opposite was true. Would you clarify?
-- John Hagler
(John is referring to last month's stout feature, which may be found at http://www.worldofbeer.com/features/feature-200003.html.)
Re-reading the article this morning, I can see how my edits might have produced that impression. The bottom line is that most draught stouts, by which I mean dry Irish stout as typified by Guinness and Murphy's, are of roughly 4.1 - 4.4% alcohol by volume. The bottled versions of those beers and many non-Irish dry stouts come in at 5-5.5% or so, as do many oatmeal stouts. Sweet stouts and porters, as typified by Caribbean stouts like Dragon and Eastern European porters like that of Okocim, tend to be stronger, around 7-8%, and Imperial stouts come in as the strongest of the bunch at 8-9% or stronger.
Can you tell me anything about the Budvar being imported by Argen-Wine Imports Ltd. in Maryland and its dispute with AB ? Is this the real Budvar, and is it available from Argen ? Can you give me a telephone # ?
-- Kip
I called Argen-Wine and discovered that they are indeed importing the real Budweiser Budvar. Unfortunately, at present they are only able to sell it to duty-controlled offices such as missions and embassies. They would love to sell to the public, but are not willing to go head-to-head with Anheuser-Busch right now.
