I heard you describe (Samichlaus) on the Splendid Table. Do you know where in the Twin Cities (western suburbs?) I might be able to find this beer?
Samichlaus is imported by Wetten Importers. You can't buy it directly from them, but they can tell you where you can get it.

I have visited your web site several times over the last couple of years, and find it wonderfully informative. Thanks for the great work and info.
My question for you is this... I will be travelling to Penticton and Vancouver, BC, and Calgary, AB in February, and Quebec City in March. I was wondering if you could recommend for these locations any good brew pubs, good (but not ridiculously expensive) restaurants matching great beer with great food, and/or good brews to buy at the local stores. I have visited the Steamworks in Vancouver and Spinnakers in Victoria, and have enjoyed them both tremendously, so anything along those lines would be great. I generally like amber to dark ales and lagers, but am open to trying pretty much anything.
Thanks again for all your assistance and info over the years. Now that I see your revised book is out, I will be picking that up this week, too.

The best way to answer your questions about travelling and beer is to suggest you pick up the new Great Canadian Beer Guide, second edition. In it, you will find a wealth of info on breweries, brewpubs and beers.
Briefly, however, I'd make the following suggestions:
Penticton - Well, it's Penticton, so there's only so much to recommend. If you can find some place with Crannóg Ales from (relatively) nearby Sorrento, you're in for a treat. I've had nice food at the Barley Mill Brewery in Penticton, but the beer didn't exactly bowl me over.
Vancouver - Look for Storm Brewing beers on tap, especially in bars on or near Commercial Drive, and try to visit Yaletown and Dix in town. Also, get over to North Vancouver and visit Sailor Hagar's for some of the area's finest brews.
Calgary - I love the food at the Wildwood Brewing Company, even if the beer is slightly less inspiring. Try any Brewsters location for decent food and good beer in an impressive array of styles, and keep an eye open for Wild Rose beer on tap.
Quebec City - Go and visit the eccentrics at La Barberie; you won't be sorry you did. And be sure to visit the Quebec capital's original brewpub, L'Inox.
I found your website on my quest to see if this particular malt liquor actually exists and I hope you will assist me please. This isn't a prank or anything. Strange as this may seem, I had a bizarre dream the other night and at the end of the dream I asked this pregnant person who was in labor if they needed anything to drink. Weirdly enough, they took a pacifier out of their mouth just long enough to say "Kodiak Malt Liquor," to which I responded, "Oh, well I just happen to have some in my refrigerator." I know, I know... this is bizarre beyond belief, but hey... it was a dream! LOL Does this malt liquor really exist????? Anyway, it is bugging the heck out of me... I appreciate your time. Many thanks to you.

Your question is probably the most fascinating email I have ever fielded at World of Beer. Unfortunately, I've never heard of Kodiak Malt Liquor, nor can I find any reference to it. Which is too bad, because I'd love to be able to provide a great ending to your story.
Do you happen to know when the 2002 GABF will be? Thank you.
