I live here in the States these days and beer here is far from flavourful it seems, and what you can get seems to be very expensive. My favourite ale is Chimay Cinq Cents. What would you say are some other ales with the same quality or taste? I am interested in trying them.
- Scot Cross

There are a great number of very fine beers brewed in the US these days, although many are available only regionally. What you can find will depend on where you are, so I'd suggest investigating some of the local brews first -- from small breweries and brewpubs -- and then working on to the larger regionals.
As for imports, any very good beer store will now stock a wide range of Belgian ales from breweries like De Dolle, Westmalle, Rochefort, Moortgat, Fantome, Achouffe and others. Again, investigation is your best bet here.

I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the Alphonse Mucha work for Veuve Clicquot and if there is a place online that carries it. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
- Maria Mitsova

Mucha did quite a bit of commercial work, and not just for Veuve Clicquot. You can find some posters at art.com.

I was listening to the radio as someone was talking about Belgian beers. He mentioned the many fruit beers and then mentioned one with a champagne type quality which sounded like "Lambique". Have you heard of it??? And where could I buy some?? Thanks for any comments you might have.
- Victor Alsberge

If you were listening to NPR's "Splendid Table" show, the guy you heard may have been me. But at any rate, I do know about lambic. It's a kind of spontaneously fermented wheat beer brewed only in the Payottenland, an area just southwest of Brussels. In the bottle, it's refermented like Champagne and called gueuze. Some of the best brands are Cantillon, Hanssens, Boon and Drie Fonteinen, at least one of which you should have no problem finding them in any very good beer store. Before you taste them, though, I must warn you that they have little to no similarity to any other beers you may have tried. They are far more like a very dry Champagne than an ordinary lager.

i found your website tonight. i want to order a beer-of-the-month thing to send to a friend. i am looking for orgeon beers specifically and was wondering if you could recommend a distributor or brewery who offers that type of service. i'm not a beer drinker and lack beer savvy, unfortunately.

I'm afraid that I don't know of a beer club that specializes in Oregon. I would, however, direct you to realbeer.com, where you will find an assortment of beer clubs of different persuasions.
