A few years back, when Wine Enthusiast magazine asked me to include a list of my ten favourite brews as part of a "Year in Beer" story, I responded with an itemization of what I called the Ten Most Notable Beers of the Year. These were the brews that had really caught my attention during the previous twelve months, forcing me and my palate to sit up and take notice.
