Rarely has writing a TOTM been so easy. Last month I was in Brussels and hungry, so Christine and I set off to locate a restaurant we had visited before, but for which we could remember neither the name nor the location! Somehow, against all odds, we got lucky and found the place just as we were about to give up.
The subject of our quest was La Villette, a cozy cafe-restaurant just off the Place Ste-Catherine at 3 rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains. After a quick and consummately refreshing Cantillon Gueuze on the terrace while our table was being cleaned and reset, we settled down to order.
My main course was simply one of the best single dishes I have ever been served in Belgium, and that's saying a lot! To perfectly cooked slices of pork tenderloin the chef added melted Orval cheese and a sublime sauce made with Orval beer. The combination was so gastronomically captivating that not only I did everything I could to prolong its enjoyment, but for a few moments afterwards, I actually considered ordering another plate for 'dessert.'
La Villette doesn't get the recognition for their cuisine à la bière as does a place like Int' Spinnekopke, but judging from our marvellous repast, I'd have to say that it's about time it did. I know that I will most certainly be back.
