I love this beer first of all because of how it came about. When Adam Avery of Avery Brewing in Colorado and Vinny Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing in California found that they each brewed beers called Salvation, they decided that rather than duking it out in the courts, they would instead blend their beers together in an effort dubbed Collaboration Not Litigation Ale.

     Handy, too, that it's an interesting beer!

     Vinnie's ale brings a whiff of spicy funkiness to the aroma of the blended brew, detectable just before the fruity malt and rich, nutty hoppiness of Adam's beer moves in to dominate. In the body, much the same dynamic holds forth, with the very gentle tartness and spicy-berry notes of the Californian Salvation blending with potent bitterness, peach and apricot malt, and light chocolate notes of the Colorado ale, culminating in a lengthy and most warming finish. It's a beer that's a little off balance, but such a great idea that it's easy to overlook that minor complaint.
