Nørrebro Bryghus Porter (Special Edition) - October 2008

I like the London-style Porter produced by the very talented folk at Copenhagen's Nørrebro Bryghus, with its slightly strong character and notes of softly sweetened coffee, black plum and red currant. But I really like the one-off version they produced for their fifth anniversary bash, with the alcohol kicked up to 9% and the complexity taken along for the ride.

Think of the sweet character of a Baltic porter crossed with the body of the London style. Imagine dark chocolate, coffee and sweet liquorice candy on the nose. Ponder a gently rounded body infused with notes of Christmas pudding, raisin and chocolate bar. Reflect on a long, rich and warming finish.

Nørrebro's affable brewery director, Anders Kissmeyer, should seriously consider making production of this beer a regular endeavor, moving it from the brewpub to their bottling brewery and exporting it to Canada. Or something like that, at least.
